This work brings together the articles titled “Education is a Second Creation,” which were serialized in the weekly Hikmet newspaper by Filibeli Ahmed Hilmi between March 2, 1911, and May 4, 1911. In addition, three other articles by the author on this subject have been included in the study.

“A man can never forget the suggestions he received during the time of innocence when he first began to understand. I have passed through all stages of contemplation; I have seen and done them all. There were times when I indulged in pleasures like the most depraved and immoral men. There were also times when I violated human rights and hurt my fellow man due to the bad temperament and irritability caused by eating, drinking, and intoxication. However, I was never able to take pride in a rejected and evil deed, to find such rejection and evilness good, and, above all, I was never able to avoid feeling sorrow and remorse after such acts.

Among so many unacceptable and blameworthy deeds, there was something in me that had not lost its purity and nobility. A light present in my conscience that had not lost its sovereignty. I thought about what this was, and what it was the fruit of. This light was the sweet and influential suggestions of my mother that could not be erased from my conscience...”
