In the 19th century, faced with the maritime dominance of European powers, the Ottoman navy struggled to defend its seas and bring its imperial subjects, burning with the fire of nationalism, under control. The Greek Revolt, which broke out in 1821, turned the Mediterranean and the Aegean into a battlefield. Nasuhzade Ali Pasha lost his life during this rebellion, and historian Zekeriya Kurşun, known for his studies on Ottoman modernization, examines this event through Ottoman archival documents and primary sources of the period. Nasuhzade Ali Pasha and the Greek Revolt are addressed with academic rigor, along with the political calculations and international relations of the Ottoman Empire at the time.
