Filibeli Ahmed Hilmi’s pamphlets on Islam and Turkishness were previously compiled and added to the Büyüyenay library in 2022 under the title Müslümanlık ve Türklüğe Dair Risaleler (Pamphlets on Islam and Turkishness). Now, with this work, Filibeli’s writings on the same subject are brought together as a continuation of those pamphlets, achieving a sense of completeness.
This study, which aims to compile the author’s writings published in Hikmet, Kanad, İttihâd-ı İslâm, Tonguç, İkdam, and Yeni Tasvîr-i Efkâr and present them within a thematic unity, consists of five interconnected chapters. The first chapter includes introductory writings on the subject: the life philosophies of nations, Eastern and Western civilization, the history of the relations between Islam and Turks, the changes that Islamic civilization has undergone throughout history, etc. Here, in addition to newspaper articles, relevant sections from Şehbenderzâde’s Tarih-i İslâm (History of Islam) have also been transcribed into Latin characters and included in the work.
The second chapter is titled “To My Religious Brothers…” and contains the author’s sincere addresses to the Muslim world in general; these writings remain fresh and relevant despite the passage of time—approximately 115 years. The written text of a lecture Filibeli gave at the Crimean Students’ Association was also included in this section.
The third chapter, titled “To My Turkish Brothers…”, consists of writings where an internal perspective prevails and which are addressed inward, specifically to Turks.
In the fourth chapter, titled “Homeland: Turkey and the Ottoman Empire,” writings are arranged that address subjects such as the place of the Ottoman Empire among Muslims and Turks, the unity of Ottoman society, how to ensure the union among the elements that make up this structure as an empire and the importance of this, homeland, flag, etc.
In the final chapter, titled “Zionism and Turks,” writings by Filibeli Ahmed Hilmi that were published as a serial are included; these explain the negative effects that Zionism, through politics, exerted on Turkey and the Turks, what was being done, and which methods were employed.
During the preparation of the work for publication, the language of the texts was not altered; dictionary definitions of certain words and explanations of some concepts were provided in footnotes. The writings were arranged chronologically within the chapters.
