The work is a representative, synthetic look at the "History of Turkey" from a corner at the eastern end of the country, starting with the 1071 Battle of Manzikert, when the gates of Anatolia were opened to Muslim Turks. In the play, written in 1967, the city of Kars, honored by the tomb of Abu'l Hasan Harqani, the seventh of the Golden Chain, serves as a historical tableau upon which time comes to life like a film strip.
