The market, having captured human will, has formed "individuals" centered on pleasure, focused on the satisfaction of desires rather than the provision of needs, in what is called the consumer society of today. In a sense, these individuals, moving from "oneness" to "uniformity," view consumption as a means of communication and identity construction; thus, they have turned everything from culture to art into consumer material, rather than just material goods like bread and appliances. In a "DEAD END" where nothing is made permanent, the situation for mankind has gradually led to the consumption of friendship, loyalty, family, marriage, fidelity—in short, everything—or to the hollowing out and erosion of their intrinsic value. To use the words of a Western thinker, "While the economy should be embedded in social relations, social relations have become embedded in the economic system." Naturally, this also hides the wisdom of where a mind (unattached to the soul) leads, and that a soul unable to govern its own matter is like someone doing aimless somersaults in the air, leading nowhere. What we must consciously grasp is that the issue is not merely economic or political, but rather intellectual, moral, and cultural.
