Şehbenderzâde Ahmed Hilmi, one of the prominent thinkers of the Second Constitutional Era, was interested in theology, philosophy, Sufism, and history, as well as politics, and also wrote poetry, novels, and plays. Two of his treatises, "Beşeriyetin Fahr-i Ebedîsi Nebimizi Bilelim" (Let Us Know Our Prophet, the Eternal Pride of Humanity) and "Cihâd-ı Ekber'e" (To the Greater Jihad), are brought together in this book, entering our cultural world in new script for the first time. In the work "Beşeriyetin Fahr-i Ebedîsi Nebimizi Bilelim," the concept of truth, human's quest for truth, and the attainability of truth are explained philosophically around certain hadiths. The fundamental idea expressed in this context can be summarized as follows: The goal that every human and every thought must reach is Absolute Truth. The one who can express Absolute Truth in the best and most comprehensive way is "The Eternal Pride of Humanity, the Master of the Universe, Prophet Muhammad."
In the treatise "Cihâd-ı Ekber'e," the author calls on Muslims to free themselves from the passivity they find themselves in, starting from the hadith, "He whose two days are the same is at a loss." He emphasizes that the most effective weapons of the current age are art and knowledge, and that the rights of ignorant and poor nations are usurped and their right to life is destroyed. He accuses Muslims of merely nominal commitment; he suggests that those who can serve their religion and nation with their ideas and wealth should come together to pioneer initiatives that can be taken pride in. In accordance with the good news that God "loves the doers of good and those who do beautiful deeds," he invites everyone to the greatest jihad, that is, to stand against ignorance and bad morals.
