This work was turned into a book by Necip Fazıl himself about 20 years after being delivered as a series of lectures between the tarawih prayer and suhur time over three nights during the month of Ramadan in 1962, and it has been cited as one of his most essential works that should be placed at the forefront, in connection with his Ideolocya Örgüsü.
In the book, which consists of two main sections, the line of Western thought, starting from ancient philosophers and reaching the present day, is addressed and evaluated in brief and broad strokes under the title "Western Thought." In the second section, Islamic mysticism is explained with its most subtle and intimate features.
Western Thought and Islamic Mysticism won the Turkey Writers' Union award for non-fiction in 1982, the year it was published.
