In the name of Allah, the All-Merciful, the Especially Merciful. Praise belongs to Allah, the Lord of the worlds. He is the All-Merciful, the Especially Merciful. He is the Master of the Day of Judgment… It is He, Allah, who opens the gates of love to His friends and assists them with the light of guidance. It is He who makes them witness His incomparable power, unveils for the souls of His friends the curtains of His holy attributes of Perfection and Majesty, and brings life to their innermost secrets through His closeness, thereby enabling them to witness with certainty His Oneness in His Essence and Attributes. Perfect blessings and peace be upon the Master of all creation, the imam of the Lordly scholars, the exemplar for those who tread the path, the Messenger of the Lord of the worlds, the light of our eyes, our Master Muhammad, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, and upon his family, his companions, the Tabi'in, and all those who follow them until the Day of Judgment. Allah, the Glorified and Exalted, has, through His grace, generosity, bounty, and benevolence, facilitated the verification, translation, and publication of this blessed treatise. This treatise is the work titled "er-Risâletü’l-Hâlidiyye fî âdâbi’s-sâlikîne fi’t-tarîkati’l-aliyyeti’n-Nakşibendiyye," written by the great scholar of the exoteric and esoteric sciences, the Lordly Imam, the Samedi Pole, Mawlana Khalid ibn Ahmad ibn al-Husayn al-Shahrazuri al-Baghdadi al-Osmani an-Naqshbandi, may Allah sanctify his noble secret. Contributing to the publication of such a work is a great blessing and a most precious favor from Allah Almighty for us. This blessed treatise contains the manners that must be observed by the seekers of the High Naqshbandi Order and Sufis of other paths. In this work, Khalid al-Baghdadi, may his secret be sanctified, has mentioned the manners a seeker must observe in all his states, such as sincerity, purity of intention, love for the masters, intention, rabita (spiritual connection), service to the perfect shaykh, presence and speech in the company of the guide, preparing the heart to receive spiritual overflow from the guide, the spiritual journey (seyr-i suluk), striving against the lower self (jihad al-nafs), and other similar manners. He has mentioned these very useful and important manners, which the seeker on the Path of Truth needs, along with evidence he compiled from Quranic verses, prophetic traditions, and the statements of the people of the path and the scholars regarding this matter. As a result—as the author himself noted—a treatise has been produced that is short and concise in wording, yet deep in meaning and of great benefit. In this treatise, Khalid al-Baghdadi, may his secret be sanctified, has included important knowledge consisting of benefits and wisdoms he obtained from his Lordly guides and the works of Sufis, and those which Allah, the Almighty and Majestic, inspired within him, for the benefit of the seekers of this path. He expressed these in a fluent style that avoids unnecessary complexity in phrasing and imitates the pious predecessors. We have added the "Risâle-i Râbıta" to the end of this work, "Risâle-i Hâlidiyye" by Mawlana Khalid, may his secret be sanctified, as we believe it will be beneficial; it contains a more detailed explanation of the section on rabita mentioned in the work, along with evidence narrated from the scholars of the four schools of thought. Mawlana Khalid, may his secret be sanctified, sent this treatise to his great deputies in the heart of the Ottoman Empire to explain the concept of rabita and its evidence, due to the emergence of certain views that considered rabita an innovation. May Allah, the Exalted, let some of his lights flow into us as well.
