İsmail Hakkı Bursevî (1653-1725), as a follower of the Halvetî-Celvetiyye path that emerged during the era of Aziz Mahmud Hüdâyî, left deep marks in the religious and mystical fields. Having produced works in many fields such as exegesis (tafsir), mysticism (tasavvuf), hadith, Islamic jurisprudence (fiqh), and theology (kalam), Bursevî also has tens of thousands of poems to his name.
The "esmâ-i seb’a" (seven names) dhikr, which is one of the important principles of the Halvetî order and also adopted by other Sufi orders, is also an important principle of the Celvetiyye order. According to this method of dhikr, seven stages and attributes of the self (nafs) are acknowledged, and the disciplining of the self is carried out by chanting one of the seven names of God for each stage. Bursevî addressed this subject in his work titled "Risâle-i Esmâ-i Seb’a." According to him, the dhikr of the names represents paths that open up to human development and is essentially a prerequisite for life.
