He was related to Sheikh Shamil on his father's side, and to Ahmed Ziyaeddin Gümüşhanevi on his mother's side.

His Sufi journey began at a young age. In 1927, he studied medicine alongside philosophy at the University of Lyon in France. During the same years, he studied Islamic sciences at Al-Azhar University in Egypt. While his primary profession was medicine, he also practiced various other professions, including pharmacy, preaching, and judo instruction.

He set a world record for the number of surgeries performed and achieved many firsts in the field of medicine. He served in the material and spiritual reconstruction and revitalization of every place he visited.

He established a brand-new language and style in his conversations and the works he penned. He revealed the connections between religious and scientific disciplines; while expressing wisdom in a language of secrets, clearly and metaphorically, he never compromised on the Ahl as-Sunnah creed. He was "Zülcenâheyn," meaning he was endowed with both exoteric and esoteric knowledge. One of the rare figures he could reach an understanding and share his troubles with was Master Necip Fazıl.

Despite his deep and vast manifestations, he kept his personality veiled in worldly life. He passed behind the veil in Ankara in 1989 for deeper and wider manifestations.
