The Three Holy Months are like markets established once a year where the commerce of the hereafter is conducted. Those who know how to benefit from them reap great gains from this market. They increase their deeds aimed at the hereafter compared to other times. They read the Holy Quran more. They turn more toward knowledge. They sacrifice sleep to dedicate more time to worship and Islamic services. They compete with one another in good deeds. Thus, they emerge from these highly rewarding months of worship having fully benefited. In a sense, the spiritual services performed during these blessed times become the most profitable investment made for one’s eternal life. Just as it is inevitable for a merchant who ignores the seasons to be deprived of profit, it is certain that a servant who wastes these virtuous periods of time will forfeit eternal gains.
