Stating that he wanted to "show the disease of 'gambling,' with its most desperate causes and consequences, for which there is no doctor or cure" in the work, Necip Fazıl gives the following answer to a question directed at him regarding Parmaksız Salih:
"The only cause I wanted to express in the work is the sudden soaring of a soul that could not find its true eruption amidst a thousand and one contradictions and a thousand and one conflicting currents of fate, and that had even become numb under the pressure of evil, as soon as it attained the greatest impetus; and its violent leap into the sublime action it had unconsciously yearned for and lived in desire of for exactly 55 years."
The work was performed at the Istanbul City Theater in the winter of 1948-1949.
