This treatise, titled Iljām al-‘Awām ‘an ‘Ilm al-Kalām, was authored by Imam al-Ghazālī (may Allah have mercy on him). Al-Ghazālī emphasizes the dangers of laypeople attempting to investigate the meanings of ambiguous (mutashābih) terms and states that those who are not qualified should not engage with such matters. The treatise explains the views of the pious predecessors (salaf al-sālihīn), consisting of the Companions and their successors, on this subject. This demonstrates that the path taken by the great figures of the early generations is the safest, and that there is a necessity to provide correct interpretations.
