The subject of the descent of Jesus (peace be upon him) has caused centuries of debate, sometimes even reaching the point of denial. Many of our scholars have written on this topic; in fact, early scholars held that belief in the descent of Jesus (peace be upon him) was obligatory, and this truth has been included in many treatises on creed, most notably Imam al-Tahawi's Al-Aqidah al-Tahawiyyah. Allama Muhammad Anwar Shah al-Kashmiri, one of the most valuable and precious scholars produced by the twentieth century, compiled the hadiths regarding the descent of Jesus (peace be upon him) from all available books, producing a work unprecedented in its time. He identified seventy-five hadiths. Subsequently, one of the most important hadith scholars of the last century, the famous Abd al-Fattah Abu Ghudda from Aleppo, through precise and meticulous research, added such value to this book through his verification, source checking, correction, and commentary that it is truly difficult to find a comparable work. Additionally, Abu Ghudda identified eleven more hadiths and thirty-five athar (sayings of the Companions and the Successors), bringing the total to 121. Through this, it was proven that the reports concerning the occurrence of the descent of Jesus are mutawatir (continuously transmitted). Therefore, consider for yourself to what depths one who denies the descent of Jesus after this definitive evidence would sink.
