Folk tales symbolically narrate the struggles during Anatolia's process of becoming a Turkish homeland through a heroic persona. Although this hero is a historical figure, they remain symbolic in the narratives. The hero fights against oppressors in every corner of the world; these oppressors can sometimes be human, or at other times giants, spirits, witches, or dragons. Their mission is to eradicate oppression, and in this path, there is no place for despair, for God helps the righteous. Stories such as Ebû Müslim Horasanî and Battal Gazi hold an important place in the imagination of the Turkish people as a part of Turkish culture.
