A few months before he passed away, while he was in Germany, word reached Muhsin Yazıcıoğlu: "Do not return to Turkey, they will kill you."
It was the beginning of 2009.
He could have stayed in Germany; he did not have to return.
But he knew that in Turkey, some people—first and foremost the MHP-affiliated Grey Wolves—would smear him behind his back, saying, "He is a coward; Turkey has never been this safe. And besides, would a patriot leave his homeland and hide out in an infidel's country?!"
There was one more possibility for Yazıcıoğlu... And that was to die.
He returned and died.
He was killed.
