The memoirs of Kilisli Muallim Rifat shed light on the era lived by Rifat, one of our intellectuals who matured during the final period of the Ottoman Empire and continued to exert influence well into the Republic. He was a figure recognized for his work in culture, language, and the publishing world. In his memoirs, he shares significant details regarding the cultural climate of the period, the state bureaucracy, and the types of people who left their mark on that era.
In the September 29, 1945 issue of the Yeni Sabah newspaper, it was announced that Kilisli Muallim Rifat would be writing his memoirs. Under the heading "What I Know," Rifat conveys his own observations, testimonies, and experiences in his memoirs. This series of articles began on September 30, 1945, and was published in a total of 34 issues until March 24, 1946.
