That is to say, man, who was created in the best of forms, corrupted this form and wallowed in swamps in the name of religion, descending ever lower until he reached the very bottom of these swamps.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThe truth this tells us is as follows:\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eWhile man was on the most truthful religion in the very beginning, he became caught up in the requirements of earthly life; instead of celestializing his spirituality, he debased it by turning it into something worldly, and he demonstrated this descent by deviating into various forms of idolatry. Humanity’s first religion was the most truthful religion, and it was the religion of monotheism (tawhid). However, humanity failed to understand the value of this belief, the power and strength it gave to the heart, and the enlightenment it awakened in the conscience; fearing matter and everything else, man worshipped matter to satisfy these fears. Although created to dominate the earth, he considered himself a prisoner of the earth; due to this subjugation, he burdened himself with many loads and remained crushed under their weight.
