Questions regarding the Soul, the truth of which only a few Islamic scholars have attained, contain within them a multitude of interconnected issues. Such as, "What is the nature and essence of the Soul?", "Is it eternal or created?", "Does it remain after death, or is it transient?", and "Was it created at the time it was breathed into man, or before the formation of the body?"
In his work titled The Treatise on the Soul (Ruh Risalesi), Esseyyid Abdülhakim Arvasi Hazretleri explains these questions in detail one by one; and ultimately reveals that human curiosity surrounding the question of "What is the Soul?" cannot progress beyond the level of conjecture through dry intellect alone. For the soul is such a thing that even if Allah were to bestow its inner nature and quality upon a believing servant, that servant would not be able to find the terminology or expression to convey that truth to others. Because the Truth (Al-Haqq) has rendered us incapable of the power to understand and explain the soul.
