Since the earliest centuries, scholars have written refutations to protect people's beliefs and deeds against false ideas. Imâm Taqiyyuddîn as-Subkî also fulfilled his duty against those in his own century who wanted to awaken the creed of anthropomorphism (tajsîm) and likeness (tashbîh) that was dormant in its grave; he wrote about ten refutations against Ibn al-Qayyim, as in this work titled as-Sayfu’s-Sakîl, and against his teacher Ibn Taymiyyah in his other works, even stating that he was compelled to do so. In the past century, Muhammad Zâhid al-Kawtharî, who defended the religion’s beliefs and deeds and stood at the forefront of those protecting the great scholars who pioneered the transmission of Islam to this day, fulfilled his duty by completing the work that Imâm Taqiyyuddîn as-Subkî had left unfinished.
