There are some exceptions that define the rules. This modest work you hold is a study of local (micro) history consisting of 15 articles. Was Mustafa Kemal a Sabbatean? Had he been initiated into a Masonic lodge while he was a staff captain? While serving as the Commander of the 7th Army on the Palestine Front, had he conducted secret negotiations with the enemy to conclude a separate peace, and had he plotted a military coup to that end? What was his role in the signing of the Armistice of Mudros? Had foreign officers taken part in the formation of the Kemalist movement? Was Mustafa Kemal perhaps a moderate politician for the British? Or, far from fighting him, had the seven nations actually mobilized their aid so that Mustafa Kemal could defeat the Greeks, good heavens? Was the Greco-Turkish War, then, a proxy war? Was Mustafa Kemal not an honest soldier-politician who appeared as he was? Were there perhaps lesser-known, extraordinarily negative aspects of the Treaty of Lausanne, even if it had no secret clauses? Was Mustafa Kemal a gambler? Was he a bloodthirsty dictator? Had he established a police state? And perhaps more importantly, was there—or is there—a fundamental obstacle to bringing to light the sub-problems and many others hinted at in the aforementioned style of questioning, or in other words, to the accurate writing of Turkish political history? Had the essential elements of reaching historical truths been destroyed and ruined, or had the "masterpiece of lies and distortion" of historical science also been clothed in print? This collection of questions and answers points to and illuminates the safe paths for writing a sound biography.
