The Early Conquests of Islam and the Conquest of Damascus consist of two series of articles written by Tâhirü’l-Mevlevî for the journals Cerîde-i Sûfiye and Beyânü’l-Hak.
The first, published in Cerîde-i Sûfiye between November 1912 and June 1913 under the title “Fütûhât-ı İslâmiye,” is a translation by the scholar Es-Seyyid Ahmed bin es-Seyyid Zeynî Dahlân, who served as the Shafi'i mufti in Mecca. In the introduction to his work, the author states: “I have named this concise work, which covers the Islamic conquests that occurred in the era following our Prophet—whose rank and stature are high—during the time of the Companions and the rulers and caliphs who succeeded them, ‘El-Fütûhâtü’l-İslâmiye ba’de Mudiyyi’l-Fütûhâti’n-Nebeviyye,’ and I began with the conquests during the time of Sıddîk-i Ekber.”
The second serialization is a series of articles titled “From the Pages of Islamic History: The Conquest of Damascus,” which was published in the journal Beyânü’l-Hak between May 1911 and November 1912, spanning 52 issues.
The work as a whole concerns historical events from the early period of Islamic history. In addition to its commemorative nature, it also provides an example of the Turkish taste and narrative style characteristic of Tâhirü’l-Mevlevî.
