In this book, Imam Abu al-Faraj ibn al-Jawzi addresses sins such as abandoning prayer, engaging in usury, alcohol addiction, and oppressing others, inviting the reader to avoid these sins and stay away from them as much as possible. Thus, by adorning oneself with the opposites of these sins—namely, righteous deeds—a person can be cleansed of sins in the manner God desires, remain vigilant against the deceptions of Satan, and succeed in walking the path of truth.

Furthermore, Ibn al-Jawzi has interspersed throughout the pages of the book stories describing the repentance and remorse of sinners, illustrating for us the sea of tears shed from their eyes due to their disobedience. And what tears they are! He has poured into the book their cries and lamentations born from the fear of the day they will meet the Lord of the heavens and the earth.
