There are no historians in Turkey. The academy has failed to do its duty. It has not written our recent history.

For this reason, we do not know what we have experienced since the Kuleli Incident. We do not know what those who were described to us as heroes or traitors actually did. We have no knowledge of the events swept under the rug.

I am 75 years old. For many years, I shared what I knew about recent history on social media. But this was not enough. In the end, I decided to do as Uğur Mumcu did and write a book. I worked with Uğur Mumcu at the Anka Agency between 1974 and 1979. We were colleagues. At the same time, he was writing a column for Cumhuriyet newspaper.

He would not be influenced by anyone. He would reveal the truths he found in his column without hesitation. I did the same. I wrote a book with the power of 100 books. When you read it, you will understand why I say this.

Although my book appears to cover a 30-year timeframe as the title suggests, this is not actually the case. Yes, 99 percent of what I have written covers the period between 1908 and 1938, but its prologue is the Kuleli Incident of 1859...

In this respect, it covers a timeframe of 79 years... A historian writes about things that have happened. But correct documents and correct information must be used. Otherwise, what is written becomes literature, not history. I did not engage in literature. I wrote history….
