The Muslims, who built a significant civilization in Andalusia for eight centuries, became refugees following the collapse of the state and were forced to leave the lands of present-day Spain with the final exile. The political and military moves of the Kingdom of Spain put the Muslims in difficult situations. The support of other Andalusian countries, such as France and Switzerland, was also instrumental in the success of these military and political moves. However, an interesting point is that France, which assisted the Kingdom of Spain in suppressing the Granada rebellion due to the political climate, became the first Northern Andalusian country to open its borders to the Moriscos during their subsequent exile. This situation can also be attributed to changes in the political atmosphere. Defeated in the Pyrenees, the Muslims remained in southern France, continued their existence, and maintained their relations with France through political, military, and diplomatic channels. This situation persisted particularly during the periods of both the Umayyad Caliphate of Cordoba and the Abbasid Caliph Harun al-Rashid. As we have stated in our study, the existing relations between the Umayyad Muslims of Andalusia and France are deeper than commonly presumed.
