“Indeed, We have made that which is on the earth an adornment for it, that We may test them as to which of them is best in deed. And indeed, We will make that which is upon it [into] a barren ground.” (Surah Al-Kahf, 7-8) * “So let not the worldly life deceive you.” (Surah Luqman, 33)
Imam al-Ghazali’s greatest work, Ihya’ Ulum al-Din, has been the primary reference source that comes to mind for Muslims in every era, and great trust has been placed in this work. Ihya’ Ulum al-Din consists of four main sections, each containing ten topics. Each of the topics within Ihya’ Ulum al-Din has been translated using a fluent and clear language without ever distorting the original narrative of the work, and each has been turned into a standalone book.
The sixth topic of the Book of Destructive Matters, which is the third section of Ihya’ Ulum al-Din, is about “the world.”
In this work, Imam al-Ghazali explains that one must know the wisdom behind the creation of the world along with its hostility, its deceptiveness, and the gateways to its evils. He also warns, “For the person who does not know evil cannot avoid it, and thus, it is highly likely that they will become entangled in that evil.”
This book, which concisely explains how a Muslim’s perspective on the world should be, is a special work from which every reader will find much to relate to and will greatly benefit.
