In this work prepared by the Journal of Human Sexuality Commission, various scientific studies and perspectives regarding sexual orientation change are presented. This study discusses how criticisms directed at sexual orientation change efforts are scientifically unfounded and methodologically flawed; that the famous study by Dr. Robert Spitzer—who played a significant role in the declassification of homosexuality as a mental disorder—which demonstrated that sexual orientation could change, but was later retracted due to political pressures under the guise of "scientific reasons," was, in fact, a valid study; the reasons behind the non-publication of findings regarding the effectiveness of sexual orientation change efforts; and the views of the National Association for Research and Therapy of Homosexuality on sexual orientation and sexual variations.
