The most famous "Kalebends" (exiles in fortresses) in history were 'intellectuals' who had attempted some sort of revolution in the capital but failed or were deemed dangerous by the government… The purpose of this was to remove these individuals from the capital and neutralize them. Since these Kalebend prisoners were seen as valuable people who maintained strong communication with the outside world, wrote, and produced ideas, the state, while imprisoning them, still "provided for their livelihood" and continued to pay the salaries of those who were bureaucrats or civil servants. Even though these individuals were currently being punished by the state, they were not oppressed too harshly, as it was believed they might be released in the future and perform important services for the nation, the people, and the glorious religion of Islam… The notes you are reading are selected from the diaries and essay-style writings I kept from time to time during my long prison adventure due to their importance; although they are disjointed issues, when handled within the integrity of a book, they reflect the prison ordeal of a political prisoner, while simultaneously feeling the pulse of the age he lived in, and representing a young, idealistic member of the nation who feels a sense of responsibility toward that age and the people of that age.
